In nominal compounding in Tokyo Japanese (N1+N2→〉N₁N₂), as is well known, the second element (N₂) determines the accent pattern of the entire word (N₁N₂). In prefixation, on the other hand, this rule does not always apply. Some [prefix + noun] structures involving kyuu- or some other prefixes do not follow the rule, showing exceptional accent patterns. Analyzing 203 examples, we demonstrate that the exceptional accent patterns pertaining to those prefixed nouns are motivated by the semantic properties of the prefixes and the base nouns. It is also claimed that the prefixed nouns are similar to noun phrases in certain respects, and that especially the structure [kyuu- +noun] has both word-like and phrase-like phonological properties.}, pages = {203--210}, title = {漢語接頭辞「旧」と「新」:その意味論と音韻論}, volume = {42}, year = {2001}, yomi = {タナカ, シンイチ and ウエノ, セイジ} }
